About Us

The 1833 Group, an award winning firm, was founded in 2018 by Nick Daggers and James “JR” Patton. Together, they bring a combined quarter-century of experience managing and overseeing political organizations, municipalities, and nonprofits. They established the 1833 Group to help progressive candidates, causes and local governments succeed.

Our founding partners grew up in the Chicagoland area and have been well-acquainted with its unique form of local politics since their teenage years. The firm’s name pays homage to the Windy City—Chicago’s nickname, which was inspired not by the prevailing winds off Lake Michigan but by the hot air bellowing from politicians. 1833 was the year that Chicago was first incorporated as a town—four years before it officially became a city.

Our goal is to deliver a customized approach to each client’s specific needs. Every client has different goals and we will always craft our skills, methods, and approaches to maximize our client’s success.

Just as Chicago has been at the forefront of advances throughout our nation’s history, the 1833 Group strives to always be innovative and a step ahead. We are not afraid to try new things, introduce new ideas, and embrace new technologies that give our clients the best chance of success.

Our Commitment to Diversity

The 1833 Group thrives on advancing the progressive values we share with our clients. We are proud of those values and recognize that the Democratic Party is a big tent; all are welcome.

We are proud to have worked with a diverse group of clients since our founding. We pride ourselves on being allies to all of those that find their political home within the Democratic Party.

We will never stop striving to break barriers and bust-thru glass-ceilings.

The 1833 Group believes in creating an inclusive working environment; throughout our firm, with all of our clients, and within the Democratic Party. We will never turn away a client based on gender, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or nationality.

As members of the American Association of Political Consultants, we live by their code of conduct, which includes; using no appeal to voters, which is based on racism, sexism, religious intolerance, or any form of unlawful discrimination and will condemn those who use such practices. In turn, we will work for equal voting rights and privileges for all citizens.

These values are essential to running a firm we can be proud of while genuinely advancing the principles of the Democratic Party.
